Colombo [Sri Lanka], May 19: Following heavy rainfall that lashed Sri Lanka, the country's National Building Research Organization (NBRO), in its latest alert on Sunday, warned of possible landslides.
The NBRO said landslides are possible in some divisions of the districts called Badulla, Kegalle and Kandy in central Sri Lanka, and Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara of the Western Province.
It also warned people in the Ella division of the Badulla district to be ready for evacuation if necessary.
Sri Lanka's Department of Meteorology, in its forecast on Sunday morning, said due to pre-monsoonal conditions over the country and surrounding sea areas, prevailing showery condition is likely to continue further.
It said heavy showers above 150 mm are likely at some places in Western and North Western Provinces.
Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places in Sabaragamuwa Province and in Galle, Matara, Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya and Mannar districts, according to the department.
