Washington [US], October 22: The US navy on Sunday declared dead two crew members who went missing after the crash of a fighter jet during a routine training flight earlier in the week in Washington state's mountainous terrain. "It is with a heavy heart that we share the loss of two beloved Zappers," said commanding officer Timothy Warburton. "Our priority right now is taking care of the families of our fallen aviators and ensuring the well-being of our Sailors and the Growler community." The EA-18G Growler jet crashed east of Mount Rainier on Tuesday during a routine training flight, according to the navy. Search teams, including a US navy helicopter, had been involved in rescue efforts to find the crew and crash site. On Wednesday, officials confirmed that wreckage had been found at an altitude of approximately 1,800 metres in a remote, steep and heavily wooded area. "We are grateful for the ongoing teamwork to safely recover the deceased," the navy's statement said.
